MainPlace mall’s “Art at MainPlace” program seeks to create a place of community where art is available to everyone. I was honored to be the first sculpture artist to work for Main Place and place my pieces in conversation with the several murals painted by other talented local artists that decorate the walls. Since the goal of the project overall is to make art that is accessible to everyone, I decided to forge a series of plant forms. These are modeled off of plants that are local to southern California, but not exact replicas of any specific species. They were meant to feel very familiar, but also a little fantastic. The plants are displayed on and in different industrial style bases to reflect the strength and resilience of nature and the constant conversation between the natural world and the industry of this area.
