The client this table was made for brought me a homemade flower press that contained preserved flowers. It was given to her by a former professor of hers who brought it over from England. She asked if there was any way the flowers could be incorporated into the piece, so I adhered them to the reclaimed wood top and sealed the whole thing with shellac. She gave me the press, complete with the other flowers it contained. I still have it. The name refers to the goddess Persephone, the Daughter of Demeter who was abducted one day by Hades while she was picking flowers and forced to be queen of the underworld. This is meant to be her table, a reminder of the life above the earth that she longed to return to.
